4 Facts You Need to Know about Water Before It’s Gone

Let’s face it; Most of us take water for granted. H20 accounts for around 75% of our bodies’ composition and takes up approximately the same amount of the planet we live on. However, only 1% of the water on Earth is drinkable. If there was ever a paradox, this is definitely one of them.

It’s imperative that people are informed about the situation and that they take action on an individual level to preserve the Earth’s most precious resource. Given this survivalist supply and demand perspective, it is worth emphasizing the need for severe conservation measures on both a global and domestic front.

To put it differently, if we all want to continue drinking water and using it for our everyday needs (e.g. cooking, cleaning, etc.); it is time to get serious about preserving it! H2O should never be taken for granted, and with that in mind, here are a few surprising facts about water. We thought you might be interested before it disappears from our lives.

The Natural Resources is disappearing - interesting facts about water

    1. We are enjoying water from the last ice age – Have you ever wondered how old the water you're currently using might be? You may be surprised to know what you are drinking could be from Earth’s last glacial period. Since geologists are running out of areas to pump groundwater and the high rate at which is being extracted, some of the aquifers contain water that has been on the planet for 10,000 years or more. The science of H2O is crazy, isn’t it?

    2. More water pumping = more natural disasters – When you think of sinkholes to landslides to earthquakes, all these have increased at a shocking rate as a result of excessive groundwater pumping. The soil underneath the surface becomes weak and caves in; Imagine standing still in traffic on a busy street, only to have the road collapse around you; not exactly a pretty picture!

    3. An iceberg towing company exists – due to substantial wealth, one Saudi Arabian prince was able to launch his very own iceberg towing enterprise. His so called, Iceberg Transport International (ITT) was founded by Mohammed al Faisal in the 1970s as a way of melting and processing icebergs into freshwater. Despite being a creative landmark effort, the plan was deemed unfeasible at an international conference from an economic stance.

    4. Water on Mars – Interplanetary water mining may not be only science fiction for much longer, as scientists recently discovered that Mars has a number of aquifers lying 1 kilometer below its surface. In light of our planet’s current water crisis, you can image NASA is working hard to figure out a way to get these plans underway as soon as possible!

H2O is the paramount key to life as we know it; the above facts about water are a testament to the vitality of this precious resource, and why we should all have more gratitude for its conservation. This is vital to the survival of our planet, so, always remember to do your part (even if you cannot afford to transport your own iceberg)!
